Couple of days ago, after 19 days of waiting, my new app, iFader, made it to the AppStore. This is my first ever non-game app to be released anywhere!

You can read more about iFader here, but enough said it's a very simple app that fades iPod's volume in or out. Just that. But there was no such app before! There are two reasons:

  1. because people didn't need it too badly
  2. and what's more important it was impossible code-wise before iPhone OS 3.0
(ok, 2. is true only for legal AppStore apps. Jailbroken apps could do it even before 3.0)

Believe it or not, but idea for iFader come from my new born daughter - sometimes I'm living my iPhone playing music in her bed, to help her fall asleep. And I thought it would be cool to have an option to fade volume out after some time. Like I've said, by that time it was impossible (believe me, I've tried), but as soon as iPhone OS 3.0 introduced such functionality I created iFader (that's why iFader requires OS 3.0). Works like a charm! As far as I know there's no other app on the AppStore having this functionality.

There's already user feedback suggesting that iFader should allow user to specify starting volume instead of using current level. It would make sense combined with my idea to add a regular alarm clock functionality.
